Wiecioch & Lee to join fellow NSWC Alum Kyle Turris at Wisconsin
The University of Wisconsin can simplfy their recruiting and set up an office right outside NSWC Hockey Director Todd Harkins office. After all Harkins and Wisconsin Assistant Coach Mark Osiecki were teammates in the NHL with the Calgary Flames. With former NSWC player and current Badger Kyle Turris already having a great freshman year in Madison, adding to his selection as the #3 Overall Selection in the 2007 NHL Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes and a 2008 World Jr. Gold Medal with Team Canada, he will be joined by a couple of former NSWC Winterhawks in Derek Lee and Patrick Wiercioch. Lee (5'9" 162 North Vancouver, BC) is playing this year in the BCHL for the Salmon Arm Silver Backs where he put up 21G - 56A - 77pts in 52GP this past season. Wiercioch (6'1" 180 Maple Grove, BC) has had some injuries in his rookie season in the USHL with the Omaha Lancers while compiling 1G - 14A - 15pts in 29GP and a 119 Mid Term Ranking by NHL Central Scouting for the 2008 NHL Draft. "It is very exciting for our program (NSWC) to be able to keep helping develop top prospects at the Junior, NCAA and Professional Level" stated NSWC Hockey Director Todd Harkins. Jon Calvano had Turris, Lee, and Wiercioch on his Team Western Canada at the Elite Prospects Showcase as he continues to bring the top kids from Western Canada to the event in Detroit.
